Current activities and research interests

Provides strategic and technical expertise at the intersection of water, energy, ESG, and sustainable development, with a strong emphasis on systems thinking, implementation, and policy relevance.

Her current work includes:

• Specialist advisory inputs to water strategy, ESG integration, and sustainability planning for municipalities, SOEs, and private sector clients
• Design and implementation of water safety plans, infrastructure audits, and compliance frameworks aligned with national legislation and international standards
• Development of curricula and capacity-building programmes, with a focus on the drinking water value chain and skills development
• Research and advisory work on water availability, ESG reporting, climate risk, circular economy and sustainable materials, particularly in Global South contexts

Experience

Nonjabulo has over 15 years of experience across academia, consultancy, and public-sector advisory, with a proven track record in leading complex, multi-stakeholder programmes.

She has:

• Led and managed national research and implementation projects for the Water Research Commission, municipalities, and international partners like the EU Horizon 2020.
• Developed and quality-assured new academic qualifications (advanced diploma to honours level) in sustainability and engineering.

Plays an active role in capacity building and knowledge transfer, mentoring students, professionals, and early-career researchers, and contributing to institutional transformation and skills development within the water, energy, and sustainability sectors.
