The Introduction to Vegetation Identification course aims to equip early-career professionals and emerging ecologists with the core principles of plant identification, including how to put together your own reference collection.
The course will cover the essential concepts and basic principles of:
- Introduction to vegetation classification;
- Landscape and environmental conditions;
- How to compile a reference collection – both physical and digital;
- Introduction to sedge and grass identification; and
- Introduction to tree identification
The course is designed to develop practical skills that allow participants to build their fundamental understanding of vegetation classification, and the identification of common and useful sedges, grasses and trees, using vegetation keys and field guides. The course will be facilitated in-person over 2-days, including field work by Grassland Scientist, Dr Michelle Tedder and Wetland Ecologist, Charlene Russell.
